    What is seizure service dog?
A seizure alert dog is a specially trained dog that is able to recognize specific changes preceding a seizure and give an overt signal enabling the dog to warn his/her owner. A seizure service dog may not have the ability to detect a seizure coming on, but is trained to assist the owner by protecting him/her from dangerous situations, by standing guard if the owner is having a seizure, or going for help. Seizure service dogs undergo very individualized training that is specific to the needs of each owner. There is also recognition now of self-trained dogs, that is, dogs that have been trained by their owners to assist them around seizures, but have not been formally trained by professional trainers.
