Rights
The
Human Rights Code provides every person the rights to freedom
from discrimination in the areas of: services, accommodation,
contracts, employment and memebship in vocational associations
and trade unions. No person may be discriminated againist
on the grounds of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour,
ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation,
handicap, age, marital status, family status, the receipt
of piblic assistance, or record of offenses.
The Code prohibits harassment in accommodation
and employment, as well as unwelcome sexual solicitation
or advance.
The Code recognizes various types of discrimination:

| Constructive discrimination is also prohibited |
The Human Rights Code & Epilepsy
Discrimination "because of handicap" is prohibited
by the Ontario Human Rights Code. The Code defines handicap
as: any degree of physical disability, infirmity, malformation
or disfigurement that is caused by bodily injury, birth
defect or illness. Some examples of physical handicap are
listed in the Code, and among them is epilepsy. Therefore,
a person who has epilepsy is protected by law from all types
of discrimination.
